As a leader in my community of Yellowknife, I try to use my platform to showcase artists from across the North. I saw this fabulous pair of shoes on social media made by Kaska Dena Designs, and I had to have them! I’ve worn them in the house as well as to jig to a performance of the Aklavik Drummers and Dancers. They are showstoppers and every time I wear them I’m the centre of attention. My daughter absolutely loves her one of a kind granny hanky jean jacket from Kaska Dena Designs. The granny hanky reminds me of my grandmothers and gives my daughter a special connection to them. Natasha was able to capture that and make my daughter feel beautiful in a very usable piece of art for children to enjoy.
On the often dreary winter days in the Yukon, there’s nothing like the vibrant pop of colour that Natasha’s cozy shawl offers. With my work as a medium involving energy and magical work, I can tell that Natasha has a kind and compassionate heart that is carefully woven into each shawl she creates.

Our founder and designer, Natasha Peter belongs to the Kaska Dena Nation from northern Canada.
Her art is conveyed through intricate beadwork and embroidered designs inspired by stories shared from her elders.
Kaska Dena Designs symbolizes generations of Kaska people who have and continue to live, work, hunt, and play on their traditional lands for thousands of years.
She is spreading her tradition through the jewelry and apparel she creates from her heart.
